40 Year Old “Bead” Store Still Going Strong in Baltimore
So you think beading and making custom jewelry is just a recent trend that might not last long? Think again!
This story from the Baltimore Sun Newspaper highlights the story of a custom bead jewelry story called The Bead and how it has expanded from custom beaded jewelry to fashion clothing and stayed in business for 40 years! The industrious women who started The Bead began buying bell-bottom jeans in New York City and selling them in Baltimore before anyone had seen them. They were such a hit that they expanded their store into clothing.
I found this story fun because it not only gives me a great place to visit the next time I’m in Baltimore (
) but it also gives me some ideas on other great things I can do with all my beads. I wonder if I can perhaps buy some fashionable blouses and then make complimentary jewelry to match the blouse… Then could then offer the ensemble at an attractive price… I’m not very good at sewing, but I wonder if I could make some beaded patterns or strands that could easily attach to my clothing in a fun way.
All these possibilities! My business spidey-sense is tingling!
Or maybe I’ve just had too much coffee this morning!
