Bead Jewelry Idea: Beaded Medical ID Bracelets
Every year I have a small table set up a craft fair and flea market held at a local senior community. I get to put together a few pieces while talking to a lot of the residents of this community. I don’t generally sell a lot, but it’s a relaxing day and fun to talk to so many interesting people.
I was talking to a woman at this show last weekend who was wearing a medical bracelet. She kept picking up pieces and holding them up to her wrist to compare sizes. As she was doing this I realized that I have been missing out on a great beading idea for this show: beaded Medical ID Bracelets!
I had simply never thought about it before. Most medical ID tags are worn in case of emergencies and doctors and emergency workers are trained to look for them because they usually have special medical instructions on them. The bracelets can identify things like heart disease, allergies to certain medications, diabetes or any one of a number of other pieces of information that a doctor may need to know if you’re unconscious or not able to speak. If you’re a bead jewelry artist and you want to make your own beaded medical ID jewelry then you can easily find lots of places online that sell medical ID tags and charms, including some of the sites above. Some medical bracelets have custom engravings so a great idea would be to make beaded jewelry bracelets that have clasps which can be attached to an existing custom-engraved medical ID tag.
