Bead Jewelry Patterns For the True Beginner

Uncategorized - March 23, 2006 - By:

A lot of newcomers to bead jewelry understand the basics, but begin to have trouble when it comes to creating sophisticated new patterns out of thin air. Even if you’ve been making your own custom jewelry for a while we all sometimes need a creative “shot in the arm” to get us feeling creative.

Ready to Bead

Right now I think I’m going through one of those “dry” periods, so I’m spending more time surfing around ReadyToBead.com and thinking about picking up a beading kit or two just to learn some new techniques and see how others are creating their jewelry. Many, but not all, of the beading kits are based on bead weaving skills, which I don’t have much experience in. There are some wirework and metal strand bead jewelry pieces as well. They even have some interesting looking rings!

The website is pretty easy to navigate around and offers a lot of neat information including everything you get in the kit (beads, patterns materials) and the techniques and skill levels you should be familiar with to complete the project. If you’ve mastered a pattern or two and simply want more beads, you can often order those alone, without paying for the pattern again!

And while the prices range from low to high, most of the kits seem to be reasonably priced. I’ve been looking at a few pieces I think I’d love to put together to sell at my next craft show. Many of the designers of the kits even have their websites you can look over for even more beading inspiration!

BEWARE!!! I placed an order on 5/1/2009 for $165. After weeks of waiting and not receiving the merchandise, I contacted the company. Supposedly, the owner was working on the kits and stated that the order should ship in 2 days. More weeks passed–no order. I have attempted to contact the owner several times–even requested a refund; however, now I get NO response. In my opinion, this woman should be arrested for theft. (My credit card was charged immediately after the order was placed.)

I’m right there with you on the whole need inspiration. I recently am starting to sell my creations online and looking for inspiration for new and innovative ideas can be very hard. I like to make all my stuff from scratch so it’s 100% original. Also I never make the same thing twice because I don’t like doing things over and over. That just gets boring.
