October is breast cancer awareness month and I thought I would commemorate the month by highlighting some of the ways bead jewelry artists are donating money to finding a cure for breast cancer and raising breast cancer awareness.

BreastCancer.org – A wonderful site filled with information, inspiring stories and helpful information. They do have an online gift shop with some bead jewelry items.

Beads for A Cure – Survivor Shari Slonski created this very personal site that raises breast cancer awareness and inspires victims and families alike. She has a lot of beautiful and inspirationaly bead jewelry that is not only pink, but many colors for members of families, sisters and mothers. One of my favorite features of this site, besides all her professional looking jewelry, is her Cancer Awareness Color Chart which can serve as a guide for making jewelry of your own or buying it for yourself or someone else.

Shanrene.com – They have a lot of charity bead jewelry and items on their site, but they have an especially good collection of bead breast cancer bracelets. Their website confirms that 10% of all the gross sales of beaded jewelry goes to the cause it commemorates. In 2005 they raised over $100,000 for various charities!

Firemountain Gems – Of course the bead supply king of the internet has a full page of bead jewelry breast cancer activities, products and promotions. You can buy supplies that promote breast cancer awareness, read about their past activities and even purchase a Breast Cancer Awareness Lapen Pin with 100% of the profits going towards the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The Breast Cancer Site – I hesitate to list this last one because they are a company which just makes websites and sells products for charities. Their click and referral systems were somewhat controversial and questionable, but now they are mostly selling products and advertising with a small portion of the proceeds going to various charities. They have an entire page of Breast Cancer Awareness Jewelry products.

Obviously there are plenty of other great bead jewelry sites and artists supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. Do your part and try to support some of these great organizations!
