Computer Keyboard Bead Jewelry
Learn how to make bead jewelry from old computer keyboards at the DIYNetwork!

Okay, I admit that I have a soft spot for bead jewelry made out of very unconventional “beads” that most people wouldn’t consider jewelry. I don’t usually wear jewelry that isn’t conventional, but I simply fall in love with the idea of recycling and using household items to create works of art and beauty! In the past I’ve highlighted coffee bean bead jewelry, bead jewelry made from old typewriter keys and even some artistic beaded items made from candy wrappers.

But here’s a more modern approach to the typewriter key jewelry: computer keyboard beads! It seems like this is a pretty popular idea because more than one jewelry artist out there is making some fascinating things out of discarded keyboards.

NotWithoutMyHandbag.com – They have a small selection of simple necklaces and charms made out of keyboard keys that are embellished with traditional beads.

Craftster.org - Here’s a small forum posting from a member who has not only made her own jewelry out of old computer keyboard keys, but even given us quick details on how she did it. (Hint: she uses a hot pin!).

DIYNetwork – Still not enough instruction for you? The DIYNetwork has detailed instructions on how to make beaded jewelry out of keyboard keys, complete with photos. They suggest using an electric drill to make the holes, which sounds a little more reliable to me.

Dezzie.net – Someone over at Dezzie.net has done the unexpected with computer keyboard keys and instead of making necklaces has concentrated on rings. You have to click on “Projects” and then “Azerty Objects” to see these. I’m not sure how they’re made, but they look like a lot of fun!

Making bead jewelry out of PC keyboard keys looks pretty easy and a lot of fun. And keyboard keys are probably a lot easier and cheaper to come by than old typewriter keys. I always see old computer stuff at yard sales and garage sales, but never knew there was any practical use for it until now!

I love the unconventional jewelry! What is it that is so cool about things that you wouldn’t dream of being in jewelry, well, being made into jewelry? Just wish I was bold enough to wear it.
