Hillary Clinton’s Bead Jewelry
With this year being an election year here in the United States it’s difficult to go anywhere without seeing a lot of political candidates. Hillary Clinton is the first woman presidential candidate we’ve had in a while, so I thought I would see what kind of jewelry she liked or if she liked bead jewelry at all. This is, of course, all in pure fun and not at all scientific or even particularly political, but I think we can say that Mrs. Clinton is definitely a fan of some types of bead jewelry!
Pearls: What could be more professional looking than a good set of matching pearl earrings and necklace? Pearls are a favorite among many high-powered professional women from presidential First Ladies to women presidents of major corporations. Pearls go with almost any outfit, can be seen as both classy and somewhat casual in the right setting and come in a variety of sizes and even colors to fit almost anyone’s personal style. Former First Lady Barbara Bush is famous for wearing pearls, but younger women can definitely wear them as well. Hillary Clinton’s photo from Brown University’s website shows how classic pearls can really add a touch of class to a simple style.
Pendants: Hillary Clinton often wears pendants, but they are almost never traditional gemstone pendants hanging on a gold or silver chain. She usually tries to keep her necklaces fairly high on her neck, so she often wears “Omega” style chain necklaces or rigid collars made out of heavy gold segments that don’t allow much bending and drooping. She seems to favor gold over silver, but she doesn’t exclusively stay with any one choice of metal. I’ve seen a few photos of her with two tone gold and silver jewelry on and she carries it off well! If her pendant has a gemstone, it is usually a larger stone with lots of color. You can see a sample of one of her many, many different types of pendant necklaces here.
Beaded Necklaces: Hillary Clinton also likes traditional bead jewelry! You don’t often seen professional photos of this, but one lucky blogger named Sandy happened to run into the former First Lady on the street and Mrs. Clinton was wearing a wonderful Peridot like beaded necklace! She’s also been seen wearing a fashionable multicolored beaded necklace in a photo shoot.
She seems to wear more colorful bead jewelry necklaces and jewelry pieces in more “everyday” situations where she is working or simply meeting constituents. She seems to favor the heavier gold and pearl pieces when she knows she will be in front of a large crowd or standing for more “official” photos that may make her look more professional. Her style is quite different from Sarah Palin’s jewelry or from Michelle Obama’s jewelry choices.
I would gladly write about all the bead jewelry being worn by the men in both parties, but I have yet to see them wear very much. I guess it’s up to us to start designing and making some jewelry they might like! I could see John McCain favoring a few great small gemstone tie tacks and Barack Obama sporting a handmade beaded men’s bracelet!

This morning Hillary was being interviewed on all the major news stations after her success in Ohio last night. I couldn’t help but notice her beautiful necklace. I actually have the same one, made by Premier Designs. It’s called “First Lady”, how appropriate! It’s very high on the neck and has large, dark, multi-toned glass pearls, with a magnetic clasp–just beautiful, one of my favorites! I’m wearing it today and proudly announcing how Hillary Clinton is wearing “my” necklace. Go Premier!!
