Making paper beads is a very engaging past time - both for kids and adults alike. There are many ways you can use them aside from jewelry, they are also great for curtains or a screen for a roon. I also have tried using old maps or old atlas books, the patterns come out really nice (would be a nice present for someone who loves to travel). I have discovered to use diamond glaze ( a three dimensional glue) use for photo charms and the finish comes out really glossy, just like a real bead.

If you want to use paper beads in a project but don't want to make them, buy them from http://www.beadsforlife.org.
This is a great organization that has set up a workshop in Uganda where women make the beads that are sold through Beads for Life. The beads are beautiful and the stories behind them heartwarming.
