How to Promote Your Bead Jewelry Website

Uncategorized - August 27, 2007 - By:

I’ve started a new category to help all my Beading Buddies who regularly ask me different questions about selling bead jewelry online, setting up websites and setting up beading blogs. I’ve worked in the technology field for years, so what better way to combine my beading hobby with my professional expertise?

Promote Your Bead Jewelry Website

Follow these tips to get more visitors to your bead jewelry website!

Let’s say you’ve got a bead jewelry website, but you aren’t getting many visitors. Here are some tips and tricks for getting more visitors and potential customers to your site:

1. Cross Promotion: This is kind of a no-brainer, but I’ve seen people skip this crucial step. Include your website address and email address on every single piece of printed material you make for your beading business, including business cards, fliers and even informational cards you might include with sold jewelry pieces. If I walk past your booth and pick up your card, then I’m probably going to check out your website at a later time, even if I just do it to try to remember who you are. If you don’t have a website listed then I may not remember your work from the 30 other bead jewelry booths I saw at the same craft fair.

2. Email Signature Line: Include your beading website address in the signature line of all the email you send out and on any comments you might leave on beading forums. Even if you’re just forwarding a silly joke, this could be important. You never know who may forward your email on to someone stranger who will stumble across your website and fall in love with your jewelry.

3. Comments on Appropriate Forums and Blogs: Even if you aren’t writing a beading blog, you can still read all the other great bead jewelry blogs out there (including this one!) and leave comments about the post. Most commenting allows you to give a website URL, which is where you’d put your website address. This may not get you much traffic, but it does give you some exposure to other like-minded people who may be reading the same blog posting and your comments. The same is true on forums. When writing on a beading forum you should always have your website listed in your signature if allowed.

4. Advertising: A lot of people forget that a website address alone can be advertised and will usually get results. I would suggest local newspapers and smaller publications at first. A simple advertisement can read something like this: “Unique Handmade Silver and Gemstone Bead Jewelry. Visit http://www.beadjewelryblog.com” It would be an inexpensive ad because it’s only a few words, and it directs people to your website which might be filled with wonderful full-color photos!

5. Change Content Regularly: Once you get a few people to your site, you want them to keep them coming back on a regular basis, so you might want to have something there for them to keep checking back to see. A monthly newsletter or a drawing for a free set of earrings or even a special sale every so often will definitely keep people coming back. And once they’ve become your customer they’ll most likely be interested in keeping track of other great jewelry pieces you’ll be offering.

6. Search Engines and Directories: Sure, anyone can build a website, but no one will know that it’s there unless you tell people about it. You’ll want to submit your site to various search engines and directories so that you’ll get listed sooner in searches for bead jewelry. There are a lot of “pay” services that will do this for you, but you can submit your site to some of the big search engines for free. Here’s where you can submit your site to Google.

7. Use Beading Blogs For Promotion: This is a little harder, but once you get to know people and start to see some of the bead jewelry blogs out there, I suggest you submit your work or send a friendly email to some bead jewelry bloggers and ask them two things. First, ask if they’d like to exchange links with you. You put a link to their blog on your site and they will put a link to your site on their blog. And two, ask if they would be willing to give your site a little write-up. I know a lot of bloggers, myself included, would love to have more people submit their bead jewelry sites for me to feature on this blog. I love to showcase new and exciting beaders who are just starting out!

8. Build Your Site Well: These are a few technical tips for your website. Make sure each page of your website has a “title” that describes it well. To find out visit each page of your site in your web browser and look at the title bar of your browser. Make sure it doesn’t say “New Page” or something generic. For example, the title of the page reads something along the lines of “How to Promote Your Bead Jewelry Website – BeadJewelryBlog.com.” You’ll also want to make sure your “meta” content description and keywords are appropriate for your pages.

Good luck promoting your website! These tips really do work. How do I know? Because www.beadjewelryblog.com had almost 8,000 unique visitors (17,000+ pageviews) in the month of July alone!

And following tip #7, please feel free to drop me an email if you’d like your bead jewelry site to be features here on the Bead Jewelry Blog!

Hi, I just wanted to thank you for your site! I ran across it a couple of days ago and have found it to be a fountain of information that I NEED! I have recently started a Handcrafted Jewelry business and OH MY is there a lot to learn.

I am really looking forward to visiting your site frequently. I’m especially eager to learn about blogging.

I would really appreciate it if you could put my site on Beadboard.net.

Thanks for all your hard work in helping “newbees” such as myself!

I believe the tips given are very useful. I have applied some of these tips to increase volume for my website as well. I put my website http://www.cinderella-accessories.com in every promotional item I buy. I have also done the drawings for free items and I have racked up hundreds of email address and mailing address to market to. Just wanted to say thanks for the tips and to say WORD OF MOUTH is the biggest and most inexpensive way to advertise.

    Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I have an appealing website that I put together for the jewelry that we design. I get a lot of good feedback from my clients that do visit. However, my biggest problem is getting the search engines list our site and have our site appear on higher search results.
I will use your tips in the optimization process.

Thanks for the article and just I wanted to mention that there are web directories specialized only on handcrafted jewelry and that is important according to my experience. For example this one: http://www.handcraftedjewelrydirectory.com/ generated quite few customers for me. Just Google “handcrafted jewelry directory” and you will find several good directories yourself.
