New Format for the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads Catalog

New Fire Mountain Gems CatalogThe new Fire Mountain Gems Catalog for 2007-2008 just arrived in the mail today and it’s almost thicker than a phone book! I was surprised at the size and then I read about why it was so big on the inside of the intricate design on the front cover. Chris and Stuart Freedman of Fire Mountain Gems explain:

When we broke up our old catalog into multiple catalogs, we thought you would find the smaller catalogs easier to handle. Instead, you cheerfully told us that you HATE that idea and that you wanted everything TOGETHER, in one catalog.

And that’s what they just did! It really is amazingly…well.. HUGE.

It’s a good inch and a quarter thick, has over 1,200 pages and feels like it weighs about 8 pounds! LOL! The catalog itself is similar in design to their past catalogs: good photos, fairly straight forward organization and plenty of models posing with projects they’ve made. While nothing beats actually going to the bead store yourself and seeing and touching all the wonderful new items, this catalog is a close second with the close-up photos and thorough explanations of each bead, clasp, wire and anything else they sell.

I was also shocked to learn that the Fire Mountain Gems website actually has about 20,000 more products than in their large catalog. Their website keeps getting better and easier to use as time goes on. If you haven’t been in a while you should check it out because it has a lot of neat “readability” features including enlarged photos, lots of different categories and sales and color coding to make things easier to find and work with.

To get the catalog you simply have to have ordered $100 worth of products from them within the past six months. If you’re concerned about the environment and troubled by all this paper being used, then have two other options. You can either view the entire 1200+ page catalog online or download it to your PC as a PDF and browse it without even connecting to the Internet! You can do all this through their handy Fire Mountain Gems Catalog Request Page.

Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go curl up on the couch with a good beading book. This one!
