Sarah Palin’s Jewelry

Jewelry and Beading News - November 21, 2008 - By: Laura Kay

I didn’t have time during the election to write about Sarah Palin’s choice of jewelry, but I figured I would now because she was still a major part of the election season and most people believe her political career has just begun! Earlier this year I wrote about Hillary Clinton’s choice of jewelry and I’ll eventually write about Michelle Obama’s jewelry style as well!

Sarah Palin's Jewelry
Sarah Palin’s choice of jewelry includes her famous Alaska earrings, flag lapel pin and rimless glasses!”

Sarah Palin’s jewelry choices have an interesting mix of funky, quirky and stylish political pieces which she mixes and matches quite freely. During the campaign her clothes and style got a lot of attention but she always brought herself off with poise and professionalism, no matter what sort of jewelry or clothing she was wearing. She’s one woman who seems to be just as comfortable in a ski jacket and jeans as she is in a well-tailored skirt and blouse.

Sarah Palin’s Earrings: Sarah’s choice of earrings was anything but boring, with the most famous set of earrings being two gold dangles cut out in the shape of her home state of Alaska! She seems to favor hanging earrings that aren’t too large or too flashy, but always have a little element of fun and movement in them. She’s been spotted and photographed more than once wearing earrings that are clearly beaded and simple to make and could have easily been picked out a local Alaskan craft sale or flea market. Most of her earrings are “down to earth” and she doesn’t seem to wear diamonds or other flashy gems very often. When she does wear stud earrings they are usually medium in size and stylish, but stukk muted and without a lot of flash.

Sarah’s Necklaces: Here’s where Sarah Palin really distinguishes herself from Hillary Clinton in the jewelry department. While Hillary likes pendants and necklaces of all type, Sarah often goes without anything around her neck at all. When she does wear a necklace it’s often a simple affair or pendant on a gold chain with little adornment. She occasionally wears a thin necklace of one or two strands of pearls, but again that is much different from Hillary’s thick and chunky pearl necklace choices. Even some of Ms. Palin’s famous black and white modeling photos from when she was younger were taken without her wearing any sort of necklace at all.

Sarah’s Flag Pin: Flag pins were a little bit of an issue in the early part of the 2008 Election campaign and Sarah made sure she wore her own stylized flag pin on her lapel at a lot of rallies and meetings. Ms. Palin also seems to like brooches and lapel pins of different types and she often wears them to add some interest around her neck without actually wearing a necklace. These lapel jewelry pieces often add some spunk to her professional wardrobe. She was even spotted once wearing a shimmering brooch that spelled out the word ALASKA!

Those Rimless Glasses: I happen to believe that good fashion glasses are just as important as fine jewelry and Sarah’s rimless glasses framed her pretty face and smile very well. She clearly knows what works for her and people were immediately imitating the Sarah Palin look with her sophisticated yet still stylish glasses. She actually several different styles of glasses on the the campaign trail, but they always had rectangular lenses and always emphasized her eyes.

Ms. Palin’s jewelry choices are interesting and fun and add an element of the unexpected to the stylish and somewhat modern professional clothing she wears. They’re definitely different than Hillary Clinton’s jewelry or Michelle Obama’s jewelry choices. She’s a snappy dresser who knows what jewelry works for her and she’s not afraid to let her personality come out in the earrings, brooches and other pieces of jewelry she wears in her professional and public life!
