Special Chamilia Katrina Beads
If you aren’t familiar with Chamilia beads then you’re missing out on some absolutely beautiful and intricately designed beads that come at a premium price. Chamilia might offer beads and accessories a bit out of the average person’s price range, but I’m glad to see they are doing their part for the victims of Hurricane Katrina by offering a special Hurricane Katrina Chamila bead. As you know, Hurricane Katrina devastated large parts of New Orleans in 2005 and it’s been a tough comeback for many of the poor victims of that flood and storm.
If you know high end beads, then you know of Chamilia. According to a recent press release:
Chamilia, New York City, created the Katrina bead to signify, as the company puts it, “our hearts go out to you and our hands are there to help.” All proceeds from the beads will go directly to the American Red Cross.
The two different beads have a base of silver platters, with one bead having a gold hand and the other depicting a gold heart. You can find the Chamilia Katrina Beads at Chamilia’s website.
Update: The Chamilia Katrina beads are no longer being made and they are considered to be somewhat of a collectible item in some circles. You can find them online at a number of different auction sites and you can sometimes even trade for them or find them at bead shows from what I hear. I’m not sure if buying limited edition Chamilia beads can really be considered to be a safe investment strategy, but from what I understand some people have made a fair amount of money doing just that!
Do any of you have the special Chamilia Katrina bead and have you used in any sort of jewelry piece you were making?

As a former employee of the Chamilia charm bracelet brand, I would not recommend their products at all. The quality of their products is horrible. Don’t even bother purchasing any beads with stones, because more than likely the stones will fall out of the bead within your first week of owning it. If you’re going to go with a beaded brand, I highly suggest Pandora over Chamilia any day. Plus, their customer service is horrible.

Chamilia quality has greatly increased over the last few years. Having that said there are new players in the market. http://www.moress-charms.com which was launched in 2009 looks promising.
