I’ve written about virtual breadboards and jewelry design programs in the past, but now there’s going to be a new Nintendo DSI video game for kids aimed at designing bead jewelry! The game is called Style Lab: Jewelry Designer and it’s going to be released by the popular family software company Ubisoft.

It will be available on November 10th and it will only sell for about $29 (you can pre-order it with free shipping from Amazon.com now!).

The Style Lab: Jewelry Design video game is aimed at ‘tween’ girls who like designing their own beaded bracelets, necklaces, earrings and even charms all on their Nintendo DSI. Players will be able to use different lengths of wire and chains, different shaped beads and jewelry pieces and even be able to decorate the beads by cutting out designs or drawing or painting on them.

Just like owning a real jewelry making business, players of Style Lab: Jewelry Design will be able to run a “virtual jewelry boutique” and the game will girls to try their hand at selling their jewelry to different in-game customers, setting up displays and building their own jewelry business! Players can share their virtual jewelry and beads with friends and even post custom designs online in the Style Lab gallery.

Here’s the really cool part: Once a young aspiring new jewelry artist has created a virtual piece of beaded jewelry in the game she can have the piece of jewelry actually made for real and mailed to her! Young girls will be able to design jewelry on their Nintendo DSI and, in a few days, be able to wear the actual beaded jewelry piece they designed on the screen!

The cost of making a piece of custom jewelry will be between $10 to $20 and the custom jewelry is reportedly well-made. Some girls will most definitely enjoy the jewelry making process and move on to designing and making their own jewelry on their own. Who knows? Maybe the next big celebrity jewelry designer will start her career by playing around on a video game!

Style Lab: Jewelry Design allows tween girls to make real jewelryUbisoft is actually releasing two games under the newly created “Style Lab” brand which is aimed at girls 8 – 12 years of age. In addition to Jewelry Design they will also be selling a Style Lab: Makeover game which allows girls to take photos of themselves with the Nintendo DSI and then apply makeup, hair and other accessories to their photos.

I’ll let you know when they are available…
Update: As I mentioned above, you can now pre-order Style Lab: Jewelry Designer through Amazon.com. The moment it is released it will be sent to you… and it’s eligible for Amazon’s Free Super Saver Shipping and it has a pre-order price guarantee :-)

This is a great time to start holiday shopping for the kids on your list and you don’t have to worry about not being able to find it in the stores!
